Nearly one year after the catastrophic floods in Kerr County, Texas, the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country has reported a significant milestone in recovery efforts. As of October 18, 2026, 130 households have successfully returned to permanent housing. Additionally, 98 more households are actively working toward achieving permanent housing solutions. In total, this initiative has a direct impact on 228 flood-affected families, marking one of the largest housing recovery efforts in the Texas Hill Country’s history.

This recovery effort is rooted in a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by each family affected by the floods. Austin Dickson, CEO of the Community Foundation, emphasized that recovery is people-centric, stating, "Recovery is built around people, not programs." This approach has allowed the community to create multiple pathways for families to return home, demonstrating the effectiveness of coordinated investments through the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund.

To date, the Community Foundation has committed over $50 million to assist flood survivors. This funding has supported various recovery programs, including temporary housing assistance for 184 households and unmet needs programs for 200 families. Furthermore, 108 flood-affected households received property tax relief. The initiative is guided by 32 disaster case managers who help survivors navigate available resources and identify their best recovery paths.

Mary Campana, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Kerr County, highlighted the importance of stable housing in the recovery process, stating, "A home provides more than shelter. It provides stability, security, and a foundation for recovery." The progress achieved thus far reflects the resilience of the flood survivors and the collaborative efforts of the community to support their recovery.

The Kerr County Flood Relief Fund was launched on July 4, 2025, following the severe flooding in the region. Since its inception, the fund has raised over $150 million, distributing $82 million to support recovery efforts. The Community Foundation continues to partner with nonprofits, government entities, and community organizations to assist flood survivors in rebuilding their lives.
