ENGIE Launches 450 MW Solar Capacity in India
ENGIE has commissioned two solar projects in India, the 250 MW Khaba plant in Rajasthan and the 200 MW Khavda plant in Gujarat, both operational as of late October 2026. These projects enhance ENGIE's renewable footprint in India and employ a local workforce for construction. The Khaba plant will generate approximately 650 GWh of electricity annually, while the Khavda plant is contracted to provide around 350 GWh per year.

ENGIE has announced the successful commissioning of two major solar projects in India, marking a significant milestone in the country’s renewable energy landscape. The projects include the 250 MW Khaba solar plant located in Barmer, Rajasthan, and the 200 MW Khavda solar plant situated in the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, Gujarat. As of late October 2026, both facilities are fully operational, contributing a combined capacity of 450 MW. This development strengthens ENGIE’s renewable energy footprint in India while supporting local communities and enhancing regional economic activity.
The Khaba solar project is developed through Khaba Renewable Energy Private Limited, a subsidiary of ENGIE. This facility is expected to generate around 650 GWh of electricity annually and will significantly reduce carbon emissions by avoiding nearly 180 kilotonnes of CO₂ each year. Meanwhile, the Khavda solar project, developed through Enren II Energy Private Limited, will produce about 350 GWh of electricity annually and is contracted to supply power to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
ENGIE's commitment to local engagement is reflected in the construction workforce, with approximately 80% of the labor sourced locally. This approach creates job opportunities within the communities and fosters economic growth in the regions where these projects are situated. Both solar plants are part of a broader strategy by ENGIE to expand its renewable energy operations in India, which is recognized as a key growth market for the company.
The recent commissioning of these solar projects coincides with ENGIE's broader efforts in India, where it has also secured its first battery storage projects. In November 2025, the company announced a 280 MW / 560 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), followed by a hybrid project in January 2026 that combines 200 MW of solar with a 100 MW / 600 MWh battery storage system. With around 2 GW of renewable energy either operational or under construction in India, ENGIE is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for reliable, low-carbon electricity.
Looking ahead, ENGIE aims to build on this momentum in India, exploring opportunities in corporate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and integrating renewable generation with advanced energy management solutions. Pedro Vasconcelos, ENGIE Executive Vice President, noted that India represents a crucial market for the company, and they are focused on leveraging their capabilities to create additional value for customers and the company itself. As the energy landscape evolves, ENGIE's initiatives are expected to play a significant role in the transition to sustainable energy in India and beyond.
