Gavi Vaccination Programs Yield $30 Billion Economic Benefits in 2025
In 2025, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, reported more than $30 billion in economic benefits from its vaccination programs. These programs immunized a record 73 million children and prevented over 2.2 million deaths, highlighting the critical role of immunization in public health and economic growth.

According to the latest annual report from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, vaccination programs supported by the organization generated more than US$ 30 billion in economic benefits in 2025. This achievement marks the highest annual total in Gavi's history and reflects the significant impact of immunization on public health and economic stability. The benefits arise from reduced healthcare costs, increased productivity, and a healthier population. In 2025, Gavi's initiatives immunized a record 73 million children and successfully prevented 2.2 million future deaths, contributing to a healthier and more productive society.
Gavi's emphasis on vaccination is highlighted by the remarkable investment from lower-income countries, which contributed a record US$ 301 million towards the cost of Gavi-supported vaccines in 2025. This co-financing model allows countries to progressively assume a greater share of vaccine costs as their economies develop. Over the last five years, these countries have matched their total contributions from the previous 13 years combined, indicating a strong commitment to improving health outcomes. From 2026 to 2030, implementing countries are projected to fund nearly 50% of their vaccine costs.
Dr. Sania Nishtar, CEO of Gavi, emphasized the broader implications of immunization, noting that the return on investment extends beyond health, supporting sustainable and inclusive economic growth. The 2025 figures not only illustrate the economic return from immunization but also reflect the recognition from countries of the importance of investing in health. This commitment is essential for sustaining public health impacts and enhancing economic resilience.
Throughout the 2021-2025 strategic period, Gavi's vaccination efforts have successfully averted more than 7.8 million future deaths. This achievement, along with the immunization of over 351 million children, reinforces Gavi's mission to strengthen immunization systems and expand access to vaccines. The gap in routine immunization coverage between Gavi-supported countries and the rest of the world reached its lowest level on record in 2025, showcasing the progress made in global health equity.
Looking to the future, Gavi aims to protect an additional 500 million children and prevent 8-9 million future deaths from 2026 to 2030. The organization will continue to focus on reaching underserved populations, particularly in conflict-affected areas. The Gavi Leap reform agenda will enhance alignment with national priorities and streamline collaboration, ensuring that the benefits of immunization reach families, health systems, and economies for years to come. Gavi's ongoing commitment to immunization remains crucial for safeguarding public health worldwide.
