Google is expanding its AI Educator Series in India through new partnerships with the governments of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Sikkim, alongside the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The initiative is designed to weave artificial intelligence more deeply into the country's educational framework. Since it began in May 2026, the program has trained 80,000 educators, helping them gain the skills and confidence necessary to use AI tools effectively in their classrooms.

To accommodate the busy schedules of teachers, the series provides a free, self-paced online curriculum. The program follows the goals of India's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by introducing practical resources like Gemini and Gemini Notebook. These tools help teachers generate personalized lesson plans and learning aids, which in turn allows them to spend more time on direct student mentorship. While the training is currently offered in English, localized versions in several regional languages are expected to be released shortly.

Beyond individual training, Google is working to build institutional capacity for AI in both schools and higher education. The company is supporting 100 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) across the country with a new Gemini-powered desktop application specifically for STEM subjects. To ensure this research remains grounded in academia, Google has also partnered with institutions like IIT Bombay to help integrate these technologies into the broader educational landscape.

These efforts reach into high-level academic research as well, specifically regarding climate resilience in agriculture. Working with ICRISAT, Google DeepMind is funding a three-year postdoctoral fellowship to create AI tools that help crops withstand changing environments. This fellowship is the first of its kind for Google DeepMind in India, using advanced genetic analysis and machine learning to refine agricultural practices.

To support vocational training and economic inclusion, Google has provided a $15 million grant to the non-profit organization The/Nudge. This funding is intended to develop scalable AI tools that help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) navigate hurdles like credit access and market discovery. A new multilingual, voice-led platform will also be launched to teach job-ready skills to people in smaller towns, connecting vocational training to wider economic growth across the country.
