Google.org Provides $15 Million Grant to The/Nudge for MSME Support
Google.org has pledged $15 million to The/Nudge to create AI tools aimed at supporting over 90 million MSMEs in India, facilitating access to credit and market opportunities.

Google.org has announced a significant grant of $15 million to The/Nudge, aiming to bolster the growth and digital transformation of India's micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This initiative is particularly important as India's MSMEs form the backbone of the economy, employing over 345 million people and contributing significantly to the nation's economic activity. The funding will be directed towards developing scalable artificial intelligence tools that will enhance MSMEs' access to formal credit, market opportunities, and compliance management. The initiative addresses the challenges faced by over 90 million small businesses in India, many of which struggle to navigate the complexities of credit access and digital markets. By creating AI-driven solutions, the program intends to provide these enterprises with the necessary tools to thrive in a competitive landscape.
The project will also include an open call for proposals, inviting innovative ideas that can further assist MSMEs in overcoming their hurdles. A multilingual, voice-led platform will be established to train local talent in Tier 3 and 4 towns, equipping them with job-ready skills. This approach not only aims to empower small business owners but also seeks to foster a skilled workforce that can contribute to the growth of MSMEs. Preeti Lobana, VP & Country Manager at Google India, emphasized the importance of making advanced technology accessible to all, particularly to those who drive the country's economic growth. Subhashree Dutta, CEO of the^delta, highlighted that this grant represents one of the largest philanthropic commitments to India's MSMEs.
The collaboration aims to address interconnected challenges such as compliance, market access, quality, and credit. By tackling these issues holistically, the initiative intends to enhance the competitiveness and creditworthiness of small businesses, thereby increasing their visibility in the global market. As this initiative unfolds, it is expected to have a transformative impact on India's MSME sector. By leveraging technology and providing targeted support, Google.org and The/Nudge aim to empower millions of entrepreneurs across the country. This partnership reflects a broader commitment to fostering inclusive economic growth and ensuring that small businesses can thrive in an increasingly digital economy.
