India concluded its remarkable campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, achieving a record total of 114 medals, including 30 golds, 35 silvers, and 49 bronzes. This accomplishment not only surpasses the previous edition's total of 108 medals but also reflects the progress made in para-sports within the country. The Indian contingent, consisting of 168 para-athletes, showcased exceptional talent and determination, significantly contributing to the nation's standing as a formidable force in para-sports.

The success of the Indian para-athletes at these Games can be attributed to a combination of rigorous training and increased support for para-sports. Devendra Jhajharia, the President of the Paralympic Committee of India, expressed pride in the athletes' performances, highlighting the encouragement and recognition that para-sports have received under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This support has fostered an environment where athletes can excel and achieve historic feats.

Among the standout performances, para-athlete Mona Agarwal set a world record in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 event, scoring 357.5 points. Additionally, para-badminton players showcased their skills, with Nitesh Kumar defeating fellow Indian Pramod Bhagat in the men's singles SL3 final, ensuring an all-Indian podium. The para-archery events also saw India clinch its first-ever medals in the Asian Para Games, demonstrating the growing prowess of Indian athletes across various disciplines.

In track and field events, India's para-athletes broke multiple records. Notably, Haney won gold in the men's javelin throw F37/38, while debutant Sandeep secured gold in the men’s 400m T64, both setting world records in their respective categories. This trend of record-breaking performances reflects the athletes' dedication and the effectiveness of the training programs they have undertaken.

Looking ahead, the success at the Asian Para Games serves as a springboard for future endeavors in para-sports. The Indian contingent aims to build on this momentum, with plans to enhance training facilities and expand support for athletes. As para-sports continue to gain recognition and popularity in India, the achievements at Aichi-Nagoya will inspire future generations of athletes and contribute to the ongoing development of para-sports in the country.
