DTE Energy has officially opened the Fish Creek Solar Park, a 132-megawatt facility situated near Sheridan, Michigan. The announcement, made on October 28, 2026, represents a significant step in the company's shift toward sustainable power. The $268 million project was funded entirely through voluntary contributions from customers enrolled in the MIGreenPower program. Now operational, the park generates enough electricity to power approximately 30,000 homes, reflecting DTE’s efforts to meet the state's energy demands through environmental stewardship.

This new facility is part of a larger push by DTE Energy to reshape Michigan’s energy landscape with renewable resources. The company now manages 20 wind parks and 37 solar parks across the state, which together produce enough clean energy to supply nearly 1 million homes. These developments align with DTE’s Integrated Resource Plan, a strategy to add 15 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2042. Beyond the environmental impact, the construction phase supported the local economy by creating hundreds of jobs.

The Fish Creek Solar Park is also expected to provide a financial boost to the region, generating tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue for local municipalities. These funds will benefit Montcalm County as well as the townships of Bushnell and Evergreen, supporting essential services like schools, road repairs, and emergency response. The project has already earned recognition through Michigan's Renewables Ready Communities Award, which provided $330,000 to each township for local improvements.

Throughout this transition to cleaner energy, DTE Energy has emphasized the need to keep electricity bills affordable for its customers. By adding projects like Fish Creek to its portfolio, the company seeks to balance environmental responsibility with a reliable energy supply. This approach follows a broader industry trend toward sustainability and community involvement. Looking forward, DTE plans to expand its renewable energy capacity as it works toward achieving net-zero carbon emissions, with Fish Creek serving as a key component of that long-term strategy.
