Google.org funds $30 million for AI government projects

Google.org announced the 15 recipients of its $30 million Impact Challenge: AI for Government Innovation on September 15, 2026. These organizations, which include academic institutions, social enterprises, and nonprofits, were selected from a pool of more than 2,600 proposals. Each project focuses on creating human-centered AI tools for public services, such as coordinating emergency responses or helping low-income households navigate tax filings. Along with the funding, the groups will receive pro bono support and technical guidance from Google engineers. This partnership aims to produce open-source tools that are flexible enough to be used by different communities across the globe.
