Working through its subsidiaries Swaraj Tractors and SML Mahindra, the Mahindra Group has finished restoring five government primary schools in the flood-hit villages of Punjab’s Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts. The project was a joint effort with the NGO Manav Vikas Sansthan, designed to repair and upgrade educational facilities that had been badly damaged by recent flooding.

The renovations covered everything from classrooms and kitchen sheds to boundary walls, sanitation facilities, and drinking water sources. To modernize the learning environment, digital panels were also installed. These repairs were essential for the hundreds of students whose schooling had been interrupted when the floods hit the region.

Beyond their role in education, these schools function as community hubs that support the local population. By completing this restoration, the Mahindra Group and its partner NGO have focused on rebuilding essential infrastructure and ensuring that children can return to a safe, supportive place to learn.

A handover ceremony was held with district officials, school authorities, and local representatives to mark the completion of the work. This joint effort shows how businesses can coordinate with NGOs and local communities to meet urgent needs, particularly when it comes to the infrastructure required for public education.

This focus on school rehabilitation is part of a broader contribution to the long-term recovery of these flood-affected areas. Education remains a priority, and getting children back into the classroom without further delays is a key part of their development. The project sought to restore the physical buildings while providing the stability that a functioning school offers a community.

Moving forward, the Mahindra Group intends to maintain its support for educational projects and disaster recovery. By investing in schools and other local facilities, the company continues to participate in the rebuilding of these regions. This project serves as an example of how collaborative work between different sectors can address practical challenges during difficult periods.
