Torrent Green Energy launches 322 MWp solar projects in Maharashtra
Torrent Green Energy has commissioned 322 MWp of decentralized solar projects across 50 locations in Nashik district, Maharashtra. Developed under state and national schemes, these projects supply power to the local electricity distribution company under long-term agreements. This initiative aims to enhance solar energy access for agricultural needs, supporting farmers and improving grid efficiency.

Torrent Green Energy has commissioned 322 MWp of ground-mounted solar projects across the Nashik district of Maharashtra. Spread across 50 locations in 14 talukas, the initiative is one of the largest distributed solarisation efforts under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana (MSKVY) framework. Under 25-year power purchase agreements, the sites will supply electricity to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), a move intended to strengthen the energy supply available for local farming.
These developments fall under the MSKVY 2.0 scheme, a state-led effort to solarise agricultural electricity feeders. The program aligns with Component C of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme, launched by the Indian government in 2019 to integrate solar power into agriculture. This specific component targets grid-connected feeders, allowing decentralized plants to feed electricity directly into the rural networks that serve local farms.
Bringing these projects to life involved complex logistics, from land development and grid connectivity to securing local permits and managing construction across dozens of sites simultaneously. By decentralizing generation, the projects place power sources closer to where the energy is actually used. Supplying electricity directly to rural feeders helps stabilize the daytime power supply for farmers while improving grid efficiency and cutting down on distribution losses.
Beyond meeting immediate energy requirements, the initiative helps reduce the local dependence on conventional electricity, which is often both expensive and difficult to sustain. Reliable power is a fundamental requirement for agricultural productivity, and the shift is expected to support better incomes for those working the land. These efforts also mirror a broader global transition toward cleaner energy sources and long-term environmental sustainability.
Torrent Green Energy continues to build out its renewable portfolio, which currently includes 2.2 GW of renewable capacity as part of a total 6.66 GW operational generation capacity. With another 4.56 GW of renewable projects now under construction, the company is working toward India’s wider energy targets. While this specific initiative focuses on the Nashik agricultural community, it also serves as a template for how decentralized solar energy can change the way rural areas access power.
